There are 60 scams for every 1 real work-at-home-opportunity. Because of the very high possibility of being scammed, here are a few tips and tricks on how to avoid the scams:

Tip 1: Research, research, research

  • Know who you would be working for
  • Check Better Business Bureau rankings
  • Do a Web Search for reviews

Tip 2: Get an idea for the industry’s opinion of the company

  • Know what industry experts and employers say about the company
  • Check websites of leading industry organizations and professional associations

Tip 3: Ask around

  • Ask for references. Can you contact current employees who can vouch for the opportunity
  • Reach out to your network to see if any of them have first-hand experience with the company

Tip 4: Consider very carefully before investing money

  • Know what you’re paying for: is it training, software, supplies?
  • Be very wary of companies that require you to pay money before hiring you
  • If you’re investing in training through a company separate from the hiring organization, DO ALL OF THESE sames steps before you invest in training!
